Springbrook Community Notices

Thank you to all our volunteers on the mountain and especially the fire Brigade and our Ambulance officers. They spent a great deal of the long weekend doing unpaid training to keep us safe in the future. Thank you. We are really grateful to have such dedicated and committed people living up here!

Dont forget... Our Remembrance Day Service will be at 11am on Monday, November 11th at the Cenotaph next to the hall. Please come if you are able.

The Springbrook Local Disaster Management committee has set themselves up a facebook page to supplement the texts that go out during a disaster or crisis. If you do facebook st all check out the page. Springbrook LDMC and follow or like it to stay in the loop.

No formal Craft Group this week as most of the members are heading up to the Craft Expo at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition center. If you'd like to go too, talk to a member and get into a carpool.

Wildcard needs more carers for sick and injured animals on Springbrook. If youd like to become a registered trained wildlife carer and be on the front line of helping our local fauna, check out the wildcard webpage and follow the links. https://wildcare.org.au/help-us/become-a-carer/

Save your cash for containers bottles. Springbrook State Schools P&C will be doing an old fashioned bottle drive as their October Fundraiser. More details to come, just save the bottles!

The Springbrook Seed Bank is looking for helpers for their seed packing days. Our seed bank is a dynamic bank with seeds going in and out all the time rather than just being stored for the Zombie Apocalypse.  Seeds are being distributed through the pacing days and also through the garden club days. To get involved with this important initiative,  contact Dee on dee.kempson@gmail.com and she will fill you in with the rest of the details.

The Springbrook Community Library is inviting residents to create Book Nooks to place on their front fences for the residents of Springbrook to come and browse books at. They can be any shape, size and colour that you desire. They just need to be able to hold books and keep them dry and safe. You can register them as official street libraries if you like.  Lynne is happy to keep an eye on the books and to rotate and tidy up the book nooks each week as part of her community librarian duties. Be part of the Springbrook book nook book lovers community and build a book nook. You know they will come!

***The beginnings of a book nook has been donated and is at the book nook in Kurlaboo st waiting for a revamp and a new home. First in best dressed. Come and get it!

Tuck Shop has come to the school this term!  You can order from the Lost Fawn on a Tuesday for Wednesday lunch and from Dancing Waters for a Friday lunch. Contact each cafe for prices and menus.

Our local Mens Shed exists for the wellbeing of our mountain men. They do many things there but they are not a place to drop off your broken goods for repair. If you know an individual who goes to the shed, he may be able to help you with a project but please do not drop in and bring things that need fixing. It's not what the shed is for. We have lots of local handy men who would be happy to help you with your handy man needs!

Roz Bates has an online hoon petition that can be accessed  via her website.
If you want to add your voice to this push to get some funding, get online and sign the petition and let's see if we can get a win for people power.

Storm season is just around the corner  which for us here on Springbrook means cut off roads and lots of power cuts. Now that you've got your fire plan sorted, it's a good time to look at your storm plan. Check you have enough medication, water, food, communications and lighting to get you through a couple of unexpected days with out power. Remember last years 3 day outage after a 30 minute storm just before Christmas???

The SMCA is holding a Rock n Roll night at the hall on Saturday, October 26th. Valley Vagrants are playing with a local band as a support act; The Much Loved Dogs". Tickets will be $10 with burgers, coke and chips to round out the night. Put this one in your diary now. You dont want to miss it!!

Dont forget to take the SES tags that the Police put off your letter boxes and rural numbers. Would be very confusing if they had to door to door knock again!

November has two AGMs in it. The Springbrook Mens Shed and the SMCA. If you're interested in joining either committee contact the relevant organisation for a nomination form.

Our condolences to Merv the Postie and family on the recent passing of Boston, Mervs faithful mail delivering side kick. We all enjoy a quick chat with Merv and to pat Boston through the window. Our thoughts are with you Merv.

Gold Coast Catchments are very excited to announce our first ever Gold Coast Bioblitz! This is an opportunity for amateur nature lovers to spend a few hours with an expert and look for the wonderful wildlife in the biodiversity hot spot that is Austinville Valley.

If you have an interest in the hinterland and its fascinating plants and creatures, this is the event for you.
