Springbrook Community Notices

Wanna stay safe? Stay home! That's the take home (and stay home) message we are getting from the people in the know. Wanna know more? Hook yourself into the Springbrook Disaster Management Committees facebook page (Springbrook ldmc) and stay in the loop!

National Parks has closed its campgrounds and turned off its bbqs. If you want to stay safe, for goodness sake, don't touch the hand rails at the lookouts!!! With what feels like half a million tourists still descending on us every day, it's got to be a hotspot for catching not just "The Virus" but plenty of other nasties...😷🤧🤒

Lots of our regular activities has been forced to close. Get online and find alternatives. Have a virtual cuppa online with a friend. If all else fails, phone a friend! There is still limited stuff to do, lots of people to chat to and a community that is still there to be part of!

Dont forget the Nerang- Murwillumbah road that goes over the border is shut. As in big barrier, not as in nice policeman you might be able to convince. Dont bother trying to get to NSW that way. It's the M1 or the GC Highway. And youd better have one of their good reasons! If you want to see NSW, go to the"Vegetable Lookout" and gaze at it from there (but dont touch the handrails!) Vegetable, say it like a 4 year old and it will become clear!

Have you signed the petition to save the Numinbah Forest Park at the bottom of the hill? It's the best swimming hole in the district. Find the petition on change.org.
Itlooks like Numinbah Forest Park has been slated to close by the powers that be in National Parks. It's a well used and beloved recreational area of both Springbrook and Numinbah residents. Feel free to write to the National Parks and Tourism Ministers as well as our local Member, Ros Bates to express your concerns. Be quick though, there are tenders out now for demolition of the buildings, tables and bbqs already. The plan is to close the area to the public and revegetate it. The problem is lack of funds for staff and maintainance from National Parks and takes away half of Numinbahs available recreation area AND puts more pressure on Springbrooks already overburdened minimal picnicking areas.
The Numinbah Valley markets wont be on for the foreseeable future which is a real shame. Thanks Amelia and the Numinbah Valley hall committee for all your hard work for such a great community event. We love it!

If you're not sure what's on and what's not, check out the My Springbrook webpage.
https://lovespringbrook.blogspot.com/?m=1 Look at the menu for various options.
It's got lots of info and is updated as new advice come through. Save the link to your home screen.

Get photos of the parking issues that seem to be, strangely, exacerbated by the stay at home message. Every street has people parking ridiculously not to mention, dangerously. Report these people to Council and the Police. Post them on social media pages too. If you're a visitor, try the giant QPWS carpark on Carricks road, but shhhhh, it a secret apparently!

Check out the Notice board at the Springbrook Emporium (the tip) for local services and tradies. A great place to find out what's on, what's happening and who's selling what. Put your own notice up. It's a fantastic community resource!

Dont forget its Speed trap Sunday out there! Did you know that Queensland does double demerit point all year and not just in the holidays? If you commit the same offence with a year of the previous one, you get hit with a double whammy of points and fines. Our back roads are notorious for coppers with speed cameras, both mobile and stationary so stay under the 80km, even on those lovely long straights when you can finally get past the tourist doing 40km... that's where the coppers and their cameras like to hang out!!

Thanks for dropping by! It's been good to see you. Feel free to add anything we've missed to the comments!

Stay safe. Stay home!

Springbrook Community Notices.

Council elections are next Saturday, March 28th. You can vote early, 9am to 5pm each day this week at the Mudgeerabah show grounds if you want to avoid the crowds. If not, voting is at the school, 8am to 6pm. The P&C fundraising sausage sizzle and bake sale has been cancelled. In the interests of public health, we are being encouraged to leave the kids at home if you can and not to linger at the polling booths.

It looks like Numinbah Forest Park has been slated to close by the powers that be in National Parks. It's a well used and beloved recreational area of both Springbrook and Numinbah residents. There is a petition going around; check for it on change.com and sign it there. Feel free to write to the National Parks and Tourism Ministers as well as our local Member, Ros Bates to express your concerns. Be quick though, they are planning to demolish of the buildings, tables and bbqs already. The plan is to close the area to the public and revegetate it. The problem is lack of funds for staff and maintainance from National Parks and takes away half of Numinbahs available recreation area AND puts more pressure on Springbrooks already overburdened minimal picnicking areas.

The Springbrook Mens Shed is Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Friday March 28th at Nerang has been CANCELLED by Bunnings due to the virus.

The Springbrook Craft Group is choosing not to meet for the foreseeable future. As soon as it's safe to do so, they will advertise the day and time and be back crafting up a storm again.

Food scrap Fridays are a community composting scheme run by the schools gardening team. Feel free to bring your kitchen scraps to the school gate on Fridays between 8am and 8.45am and be part of this cool initives!

Keep an eye out for kids on bikes and mums with prams this week before and after school as we get back into the school year. Its particularly tough as we dont have footpaths on many of our streets and the ones we do have a pretty rough. Also watch for that 40km zone in front of the school. You dont want to get booked there by a speed camera!

Tuck shop at the school operates on a term or weekly basis. Pop into Dancing Waters Cafe and pay for a term of Friday lunches and get a discount or just order and pay weekly when you need it. $5 per lunch, discount on the full term. GF, DF nut free etc all available.

Parents and visitors, please dont park inside the school during drop off and pick up times.  It creates an extra hazard for the children to negotiate.  Please park next to the school or across the road.

Food Scrap Friday is a community composting initiative run by the school and its P&C. Just bring your bucket of vege food scraps to the gate between 8am and 8.30am and the gardening project kids will weigh it, empty it into their compost heap and rinse the bucket before returning it to you at the gate. A great way to be involved even if you dont have kids at the school.

If you see any trees down across the roads, please call the TMR emergency line 131940 for Springbrook Road and the City of Gold Coast emergency line 1800637000 for the smaller Roads. They will send someone up fairly quickly to deal with it. Technically,  our local guys cant deal with trees on the road until directed to by decorative epaulette wearing persons!
