Community Notices!

Dont forget to take the SES tags that the Police put off your letter boxes and rural numbers. Would be very confusing if they had to door knock again!

The total fire ban has been lifted but, we are so dry at the moment that it would take very little to set off a decent fire. Not something that anyone wants. Please be careful when using power tools and lawn mowers just in case a spark sets off a fire in your back yard.

The Craft Group has moved to the Lost Fawn Cafe. 10am start. No charge, just buy your own coffee and something to eat. Bring your crafts and enjoy some crafting time with a group of like minded ladies.

Save your cash for containers bottles. Springbrook State Schools P&C will be doing an old fashioned bottle drive as their October Fundraiser. More details to come, just save the bottles!

"Strings under a Full Moon" tickets are still available online at eventfinder. Check out the Springbrook Gastronomical and Arts Society's latest event on their facebook page for all the details.

The Springbrook Seed Bank is looking for helpers for their seed packing days. Our seed bank is a dynamic bank with seeds going in and out all the time rather than just being stored for the Zombie Apocalypse.  Seeds are being distributed through the pacing days and also through the garden club days. To get involved with this important initiative,  contact Dee on dee.kempson@gmail.com and she will fill you in with the rest of the details.

The Springbrook Community Library is inviting residents to create Book Nooks to place on their front fences for the residents of Springbrook to come and browse books at. They can be any shape, size and colour that you desire. They just need to be able to hold books and keep them dry and safe. You can register them as official street libraries if you like.  Lynne is happy to keep an eye on the books and to rotate and tidy up the book nooks each week as part of her community librarian duties. Be part of the Springbrook book nook book lovers community and build a book nook. You know they will come!

Tuck Shop is coming to the school next term!  You can order from the Lost Fawn on a Tuesday for Wednesday lunch and from Dancing Waters for a Friday lunch. Contact each cafe for prices and menus.

Our local Mens Shed exists for the wellbeing of our mountain men. They do many things there but they are not a place to drop off your broken goods for repair. If you know an individual who goes to the shed, he may be able to help you with a project but please do not drop in and bring things that need fixing. It's not what the shed is for. We have lots of local handy men who would be happy to help you with your handy man needs!

If water is a real problem for you on the mountain at the moment, dont forget you can do your washing down at the laundromats in Nerang and Mudgeerabah. If you're looking for water saving measures, check out this website for some good tips.

Roz Bates has an online hoon petition that can be accessed  via her website.
If you want to add your voice to this push to get some funding, get online and sign the petition and let's see if we can get a win for people power.

Storm season is just around the corner  which for us here on Springbrook means cut off roads and lots of power cuts. Now that you've got your fire plan sorted, it's a good time to look at your storm plan. Check you have enough medication, water, food, communications and lighting to get you through a couple of unexpected days with out power. Remember last years 3 day outage after a 30 minute storm just before Christmas???

The SMCA is holding a Rock n Roll night at the hall on Saturday, October 26th. Valley Vagrants are playing with a local band as a support act; The Much Loved Dogs". Tickets will be $10 with burgers, coke and chips to round out the night. Put this one in your diary now. You dont want to miss it!!

It's quite a Summery Sunday out here!

It's quite a Summery Sunday out there at the moment! Remember those summer days with lovely warm sun and a
bit of rain on the way or should that be those long wet days with a bit of sun now and then? Summer in Springbrook! Something to look forward to!

On this summary type Sunday we have all the cafes open for a cuppa or a meal, both our crafts shops, the gem shop and the fudge shop if you're keen to get out and about without leaving the mountain.

The Sunday Afternoon People will meet to make music and have fun at about 3pm this afternoon. It's a casual group of musicians,  players and singers, that jam together on Sunday Afternoons. They meet at different locations each week. Call Cath on 0423 414 073 for all the information.

Looks like the week ahead may be "walking with an umbrella" type weather. Such a relief from the endless days of blue skies and sunshine for both the Forest and our tanks.  A strange part of the year as we prepare for summer storms that will start soon and  bush fires with no water in our tanks. It's our Boy Scout time of the year where we need to Be Prepared!

Look at your fire plan. Look at your storm plan. Be prepared.

And then sit back and know you are ready for what Mother Nature throws at us in the next few months.

See you there!

Heres to a sociable Saturday!

Here's to a sociable Saturday! Plenty of chances to chat with people today and strengthen your relationships with them! Looks like a sunny morning with the chance of rain this afternoon which gives us plenty of chances to be sociable outside this Saturday morning!

If youd like to volunteers for the Tree Planting at the Settlement at 8.15am this morning, contact Guy Cooper on 0437 694 215. Bring hat, water, long sleeved shirts, sunscreen, covered shoes, gloves and a snack. There a goal of 800 trees to be planted today!

Our Mens Shed opens at 9am this morning to divvy up the spoils from the Area 51 raids during the week. At least, that's the rumour... But if you've always wanted an alfoil hat, this could be the morning to show up and check out the Mens Shed!

The Austinville Spring Fair is on this morning from 10am to 2pm at the Mt Nimmel Hall. Could be a nice way to spend time with your kids today at a small country fair!

This Months community cuppa is a Saturday Morning Community Cuppa, starting at 10.30am at The Lost Fawn Cafe. Come along and meet people in the flesh and see how close to their online profiles they really are! Great chance to check out a local cafe and some locals if you are new in town!

The Springbrook Tennis Club often meet for a casual hit at the courts behind the hall on Saturday mornings. Bring the kids, your rackets and see who else turns up!

Being social is a great way to spend a Saturday! Especially when we have so many fun opportunities to do so today. Cuppas and Country Fairs, Tennis and Tree Planting. What more could you want to do today!

Make friends. Talk to people. Laugh, Hug and Smile. It's the perfect Saturday to be sociable!

See you there!

How fickle will this Friday be?

How fickle will this Friday be for you? Some nice rain over night and a bit more this morning. Might be a bit more during the day. Might not. Who knows. That's why it's a fickle Friday! Great day for coffee in a cafe with a friend though...

If you havent been to a Yoga class all week, there is Yoga with Danielle at the Numinbah Valley Hall, 9.30am this morning. Try it and see what you think!

The great guys and gals of the Springbrook AA will meet at the hall at 4.30pm this afternoon. If you need help or support around alcohol,  pop in and say hi. You'll be most welcome!

The rain will make tomorrows tree planting a little easier as the ground should be nice and soft. 8.15am at the Settlement if you're looking for a school holiday activity with a environmental theme!

Community Cuppa is at The Lost Fawn Cafe tomorrow starting at 10.30am. Great chance to meet people face to face. See if you can get there!

Enjoy this fickle Friday. Whether the weather rains or shines, it's still a glorious day out there. And we've got an extra 14 minutes of day time today now that the Equinox has passed! Use it well.

Shake hands. Make friends. Smile. We live in a great little community made up of an eclectic mix of people. Enjoy them for who they are!

See you there!

Thursdays are not the day to be thrifty with Thunderstorms!

Thursdays aren't the day to be thrifty with the thunderstorms! No Siree, today is a great day for rain, showers, drizzles and any other kinds of precipitation that Mother Nature has up her sleeve. Wouldn't it be great to get some decent rain to go with these clouds?

Just in case it rains, we have a few things to do today that are all indoors.

The Springbrook Mens Shed opens at 9am this morning for their usual secret mens business of watering gardens, talking about the weather and deciding on how many sugars in their tea or coffee. Pop in and say hi and join in. Theres lots of cups!

Yoga with Helen, 9am at her studio, 1947 Springbrook Rd for those who need to move their bodies this morning. Any level of Yogi welcome from complete beginner to advanced. Just show up and Helen will lead you through an hour of relaxing yoga.

Got a lot of energy? Perisai Diri Silat is a great way to burn some off. Classes are on at 6pm at the Hall tonight. Pop in and chat to Simon about what he does if you're interested.

Mother Nature might be a bit thrifty with the rain today but you dont have to be thrifty with your day. Spend time with people you care about.  Spend time doing things you love. Spend time enjoying living in our mountain Paradise!

Live. Love. Laugh.
That's what we do here on our hill top heaven!

See you there!

What a worthwhile Wednesday!

What a worthwhile Wednesday we have today!! Its definitely worthwhile waking up, getting out of bed and switching on your phone to know this!!
BoM is still saying chances of showers today and tomorrow so maybe it's a good day to put fertiliser on the gardens? Plant a few seedlings? Pop out a few bowls of water for the wildlife? The rain we've had isn't really enough yet...

We have a very worthwhile activity on the mountain today! The Springbrook Craft Group meet 10am at the Lost Fawn Cafe this morning. Note the change of location! All crafters and their crafts are  welcome. Never been to the Craft group before? Then make the effort to turn up today. It will be worth your while!

Don't forget the tree planting and the Community Cuppa are both on SATURDAY this week. Both very worthwhile activities. See if you can fit them both in!

Make your Wednesday worthwhile. Get out and enjoy Springbrook and it's people today. Be enthused. Be excited. Be the positive energy in someones day today.

Enjoy living on our hill top heaven!

See you there!

What a cheerful Tuesday!

What a cheerful Tuesday! The sun is shining. The birds are singing. It's almost like a Disney Movie out there today! Our forecast of rain this week is rapidly diminishing.  As great as it was to have the 10mm or so that we got up here, we could all do with a little more... Our tanks need a bit more in them and the forest is still looking a little thirsty Mother Nature.

Rain or shine today, we have a cheerful Tuesday ahead of us!

Theres Yoga with Helen 9am at her studio, 1947 Springbrook Rd. Great for all levels of yoga, just turn up!

The Springbrook Mens Shed is open from 10am. Hard to find unless you know where it is (the driveway to the right of Sophie's Stall opposite Carricks Rd) it's worth the effort of finding this hidden treasure. Pop in sometime and see what they do!

Perisai Diri Silat is on at 6pm at the Hall tonight for those who like the energy and discipline of a martial art. Drop in at 6pm and Simon will give you all the details.

There's a tree planting day at The Settlement on Saturday, starting at 8.15am for those who want to help Springbrook become even greener! Run by a group called "The World as I am" they have a target of 800 trees to plant this weekend. Lunch is provided for volunteers. If you're interested,  call Guy Cooper on 0437 694 215 to get all the details!

Don't forget, the Community Cuppa is on this Saturday 10.30am at The Lost Fawn Cafe, not Friday as usual.

Be cheerful today. We have a lot to be cherry about! Living in Paradise has its challenges but we wouldnt swap it for anything. Get out and meet people today. Do something nice for someone else. Pay it forward. Be cheerful.

Be chirpy. Be cheerful.  Be chipper!
And bring to life the Disney movie set we live in called Springbrook! Singing and Cuban dancing optional, unless you are Christina!

See you there!

Mondays are mostly manageable!

Mondays are mostly manageable...and this Monday on the mountain will be mostly manageable, even after our busy weekend! The weathers looking patchy this week. Sunshine and rain. Not a bad combination for fire fighters and tourists alike. Great to see the forest being having a drink again!

There's no playgroup or school library today, it's the school holidays! Visit a Book Nook or maybe get together at a park or cafe with friends today and have a book swap!

There is Yoga at the Hall, 6pm tonight for those needing to stretch out after a very busy weekend! Just turn up. Beginners and first timers most welcome!

We haven't seen any abandoned, burnt out or smashed up cars up her over the weekend for a while which is great. If you have any issues with parking, foot paths, graffiti or anything else, let our local counciller know on division9@goldcoastqld.gov.au. send a photo if you can.

A fairly quiet week here on the mountain but with our Community Cuppa on Saturday to look forward to. Always a great little community gathering. Make the effort to come if you can this time!

Take the time to enjoy this laid back week on the mountain. Watch the weather as it changes and take the time to recharge, as the rain refreshing our forests, water falls and the wildlife. We too, are part of the fabric of Springbrook and need to recharge and refresh occassionally.  This is definitely the day to start a week of rejuvenation.

Rest. Relax. Recharge. Rejuvenate.
Next month is going to be a busy one!

See you there!

Hoping for a wet Wednesday!

We were all hoping for a Wet Wednesday but that doesnt seem to be the case this morning! Glorious blue skies out the window this morning. However, the power is back on here in Springbrook, thanks to those hard working guys at Energex! Thanks guys!

BoM is predicting a bit more rain for tomorrow, and it's the Equinox! The sun will rise at 5.41am and set at 5.41pm on Thursday. After that the days get longer and the nights shorter. Roll on Summer (and a few nice wet storms)!

Rain, Fires or no power, the Springbrook Craft Group meet every Wednesday at 10am at the hall. All crafts are welcome. It takes a fair bit to deter the crafty ladies from crafting up a storm!  $3 for hall hire. Bring a plate for morning tea.

Our Women's Circle will meet at the hall tonight at 7pm. Might be some rain dancing, might be secret womans rituals but there will be a cuppa and a few laughs! Mums with new bubs especially welcome!

Theres Ambulance training at the Fire Shed tonight for those involved tonight too. Might be cake, a little bird said there was an ambo birthday today...!

Those people who rain danced, washed their cars, curtains and doonas yesterday , Thank you. It worked! Various levels of rain reported up here yesterday afternoon ranging from 1.5mm in the Valley and 3.5mm on the hill. Keep dancing peoples, the firies say we need about 6 inches of rain over a couple of days to make us much safer. The Forests and Waterfalls also need a drink along with the wildlife.

Enjoy the rain, no matter how little and keep up that dancing. We all want to spend tomorrow,  singing and dancing in the rain!

Breathe. Dance. Smile.
We live on Springbrook!

See you there!

This Tuesday is challenging!

This Tuesday is challenging! A Thunderstorm is predicted but with a 50% chance of 1mm of rain up here in Springbrook, the second wettest place in Queensland? How can that be?? Your Tuesday challenge is to pull out all the stops of any rain inducing dance, ritual or prayer, no matter how vauge, and let's razz up the rain gods and get some of that wet stuff falling on us!

As well as shaking your booty in a rain dance today (Cuban style perhaps) heres a couple of other activities to fit in around your rain inducing rituals...

Theres rain inducing Yoga with Helen 9am at her studio, 1947 Springbrook Rd this morning. No salute to the sun today just rain god glories this morning!

The Men's Shed is open from 10am and they are looking at building a rain gun to fire at the clouds, after morning tea, if they have time. Their rain dance wasn't working,  they got a tank instead

Perisai Diri Silat is on at 6pm at the Hall tonight. It will sound like a Thunderstorm in there even if we dont get one!

Late notice, but our Chamber of Commerce has booked meeting at the hall at tonight. 7.30pm. Check with Ash or Rozie as to wether it's a full meeting or a management meeting. I've lost track of which one it is tonight... Either way, may it rain on your meeting!!

Hopefully Numinbah will get some rain down there to put out those hot spots even if we don't. No matter where the rain falls on the plains today, someone will be grateful.

Thanks again to all those who kept us safe over the last week or so. Your actions havent gone unnoticed.  We are doing what we can to get those raindrops falling on your heads.

Rain dance on peoples! Rain dance on!

See you there!

Let's be mettlesome this Monday!

Let's be mettlesome this Monday! Let's have a proud and unbroken spirit and get on with the last Monday of the school term.

No news is good news from Numinbah RFB today as they are more or less finished up down there at Nixons Creek . The guys n gals of the Rural Fire Brigade got a good nights sleep for the first time in over 10 days which they well and truly deserved.  Thanks for all your hard work. We are looking forward to celebrating your success with you soon.

BoM is predicting a thunderstorm for tomorrow so keep up your rain dancing,  prayers and rain inducing rituals and let's see if we can tempt it to bucket down in this area!

Our mettlesome Monday brings us our usual array of interesting Monday things to do!

Its School Library Day today and it's the last day of term so hunt down all those books and get them back to the school today.

Make sure you get to Playgroup at the school 9.30am to 11am today as its going to be three weeks before it's back on again. Completly free. All littilies and carers welcome.

Theres no Yoga at the Hall tonight, Helen is at her last meeting in Brisbane this evening. Yoga will be Wednesday at 6pm instead, with Womans Circle afterwards.

Dont forget if you've seen any abandoned, burnt out or smashed up cars over the weekend to let council know on division9@goldcoast.qld.gov.au

Obviously, we are still in a total fire ban and the weather conditions are still creating a severe fire danger with  tinder dry bush, low humidity, lack of rain and unpredictable winds. Please be careful with anything that could cause a spark to fly and call 000 if you see any fire at all.

In the meantime, let's be mettlesome. Monday is a great day for it!

Breathe. Pray for rain and shake that booty with the best rain dance you can produce today. It might just work!

See you there!

Springbrook community notices!

Get your bush fire updates from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services websites and social media pages. They have the correct and most up to date information on both their websites and phone apps. Remember, no news is good news from QFES!

Springbrook is under a TOTAL FIRE BAN. This means no outdoor flames whatsoever. We are so dry at the moment that it would take very little to set off a decent fire. Not something that anyone wants. Please be careful when using power tools and lawn mowers just in case a spark sets off a fire in your back yard.

Save your cash for containers bottles. Springbrook State Schools P&C will be doing an old fashioned bottle drive as their October Fundraiser. More details to come, just save the bottles!

"Strings under a Full Moon" tickets are now available online at eventfinder. Check out the Springbrook Gastronomical and Arts Society's latest event on their facebook page for all the details!

The Springbrook Natural Heath Network will be holding its first Community Holistic Health Check on September 22nd at the hall. Come along and meet our mountains natural therapists and have a chat about your health. Health talks, demonstrations and healthy food available. Gold coin donation. Kids welcome. No appointment needed. More info in Voices!

The Springbrook Community Library is inviting residents to create Book Nooks to place on their front fences for the residents of Springbrook to come and browse books at. They can be any shape, size and colour that you desire. They just need to be able to hold book and keep them dry and safe.

There is a "Thank a Firie" celebration night being planned at the Numinbah hall soon. Our Valley Cousins are nutting out the details now and as soon as they have it sorted, they will let us know. The NVRFB is still damping down and mopping up out at Nixons Creek so a few more days before we can party with them!

Many thanks to the dedicated and talented mob at QPWS for all their firefighting skills over in Numinbah and Binna Burra in recent days. It's sad that the park was closed but we are thrilled that you were part of the team that contained the fire and stopped it from coming any closer. Thanks also to SEQ Water Rangers, the guys n gals from the Urban fire fighters and also a few of our locals seconded to communications positions. Springbrook thanks you for your part in fighting these fires and is proud to to acknowledge your hard work and success in containing these fires! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

If water is a real problem for you on the mountain at the moment, dont forget you can do your washing down at the laundromats in Nerang and Mudgeerabah. If you're looking for water saving measures, check out this website for some good tips.

Roz Bates has an online hoon petition that can be accessed
If you want to add your voice to this push to get some funding, get online and sign the petition and let's see if we can get a win for people power.

See you there!

Another sunbaked Sunday!

Another sunbaked Sunday is upon us...

What rain making rituals do you have up your sleeve? Without much water in our tanks, the usual car, doona or curtain washing is a bit difficult. Maybe do a bit of house painting today or walking without your umbrella will bring the rain this week? Lets try it anyway. Rain dancing is going to become a local pastime in the coming weeks!

Today the Sunday Afternoon People will meet to make music and have fun. They can change locations each week so give Cath a call on 0423 414 073 to find out where they are today. They start at 3pm. Bring your instrument,  a singing voice and be prepared to have fun!

The guys n gals in the Numinbah Fire Bridage are still at the fire site, along with National Parks staff and SEQ Water Rangers patrolling, checking and damping down what embers are still burning. It's looking ok down there for the moment but with this hot dry windy weather, things can change in an instant.

Keep your yard as clear as you can. Pack your valuables and have a list of daily things you want to take if the worst happens. This is a great time to register your phone number with the local disaster management committee on 0488 477 701 so you can recive local info as it comes to hand.

Let's keep working together to get through the months ahead while we move from drought to flooding rain on it's never ending cycle.

You gotta love a sunburnt land, Dorothy McKellar did!

See you there!

We are all a bit shaken and stirred this Saturday...

We are all a bit shaken and stirred this Saturday after the trauma of last weeks fires. It will take a while to get back to normal and that might not happen until the rains come. We are all a bit traumatised; some feel a bit helpless, a bit hopeless, even a bit guilty that nothing happened to us when others lost so much. Sitting and waiting for something bad to happen stirs up the mind. With more fire weather predicted,  let's keep talking, hugging and allow people to work through these complex emotions. It's a tricky time here in Paradise.

To shake up your Saturday, try one of these activities... Our Men's Shed will open at 9am this morning for their famous cups of tea and whatever secret mens business they conduct there!  If you're a guy and you're feeling a bit out of sorts after this long week, pop in and say hi. It's an interesting place to hang our for a morning.

The Springbrook Tennis Club often meet for a hit at the courts behind the hall on Saturday mornings. Grab your bat n ball and head on down to see whose playing today.

And to really get shaken and stirred up this evening, its Cuban Dance night in the hall at 5.30pm. Great night for the family (kid friendly) or for couples (romantic) or for singles (fun with friends) You are bound to know someone there , so come to the hall, bring a glass of wine with you and have some fun tonight. $15 each $30 for the family.
Good to hear the Springbrook National Park is open again. Hope all our firefighting Park Staff have had a bit of a break and are ready for just a normal weekend here in Paradise! You've worked really hard over at Binna Burra fires and we are grateful!

Remember, we are still on a total fire ban. No fires, no naked flames outdoors and no visits from a fire brigade and their book of fines... Be prepared; maybe get a fire extinguisher for the car. A rural brigade officer stopped in the Valley yesterday for an smoking car engine. No one had anything on board to put out the fire. Thank goodness you were just around the corner Pete!

Get informed. Get prepared. Get your fire plan ready. Hopefully nothing will happen but let's be like the Scouts and be prepared!

Stay safe.
💚Springbrook.

It's a bit of a figety Friday...

It's a bit of a fidgety Friday as we wait to see if the Park will reopen today, and along with it our cafes and business. Spartan down in Numinbah looks like its has been postphoned, so another slow accommodation weekend for us here on the mountain. But rather than sit and fidget the day away on facebook, here's a few things you can be doing!

The School Gardening Project is on before school this morning, 8am to 8.45am. Students and parents are welcome to come and help grow veges and flowers and spend some time digging in the dirt!

Don't forget, its School Banking day today. Pop your bank book in your bag now!

As far as we know, there is still Yoga with Danielle at the Numinbah Valley Hall, 9.30am this morning if you're in the mood for a trip down the hill today.

Our incredible AA group meets at the hall 4.30pm on Friday afternoons. It's not so little these days with quite a few members now coming from the Coast.  They follow the Big Book and welcome all new members. Just turn up!

The Ladies Lunch was a bit hard to organise this week with all the uncertainty around the fires. Lynne's organising it for next Friday, 11.30am, location to be confirmed.

Springbrook Voices should have hit most letterboxes in Springbrook by now! A great read, filled with everything from quizzes to eulogies, local news to local history and everything in between. Grab a copy from one of the cafes if you havent got one yet!

If you've had a break in or had strangers on your property in the last week or so, call Police Link on 131 444 and report it. The Police are happy to increase patrols up here if we let them know there is an increased problem.

Oh, and you can take your Police/SES tag off your letterbox now too!

Fires look like being a constant part of our lives until we get some decent rain. While we are not under threat from a fire, have a look at what information is out there and get your fire plan in place. Much less stressful to do it now than during a 3am evacuation!

Stay calm. Be smart. Be thankful. Springbrook is full of trained people who will guide us through the next challenge that Mother Nature throws at us here in Paradise!

See you there! 💚Springbrook

Thursday is a great day to Thank a Firie!

Thursday is a great day to Thank a Firefighter! Thank you to all the volunteer rural fire fighters down in Numinbah Valley and also in Clagirabah who have been keeping that fire away from our patch of Paradise! Thank you!

We are incredibly grateful that you are there doing what you do to keep our communities safe. Thanks to the support teams who have been backing up our firefighters. All the family and community members who also have been working hard to get food and water out to the front lines. Thanks to the people who baked and delivered yummy one handed, stuff in your mouth and get back to the fire things! You are all legends and we thank you all this Thursday!

Anastasia should be back from her break today so School Tuck Shop orders can go in today for Fridays lunch delivery. $5

There is the before school yoga class for students today at the school. 8.15am to 8.45am. Heaps of fun. Dont be late.

Our Men's Shed opens at 9am today for whatever the men do on Thursdays. We know it involves a cuppa and a chat and after the week we have had, enjoy it Gentlemen!

Don't forget theres Yoga with Helen, 9.15am at her studio, 1947 Springbrook Rd after the kids class today if you didnt make it on Tuesday!

It's a Seed bank seed packing day today! Anyone is welcome to help out starting at 10am at Gina's Place. Call Self Help Retreat for more information.  Yes, you get to take some seeds home!

Tank painters are meeting today, 10.30am at the Welcome Tank to finish up the repairs. Bring some morning tea and come and put your mark on a Springbrook icon!

School P&C meeting, 3.15pm at the school today. Great Trivia night last Saturday guys! Just what we needed!

And to finish the day, Perisai Diri Silat classes are on at 6pm at the Hall tonight. If you're keen, just show up!

Whew! A big day ahead of us. Get on with your day and if you feel you aren't coping with what's been happening, seek help. Talk to your Doctor, Life-Line, a friend, but dont let the anxiety eat away at you. It's been a tough few days and we all have had moments of doubt and uncertainty.  Talk it out with some one if you can.

Look after your head, heart and soul today. Breathe.

💚Springbrook

Its Wednesday and the weight of recent events has lifted...

Its Wednesday, and the weight of recent events has lifted a little today. The fires down in Numinbah have stayed behind the containment lines overnight with the firies more patrolling and mopping up the edges than full on fire fighting. Definitely a good sign when lots of local firies can sleep at night!
Springbrook Craft Group has a bit of a change of plan this morning. They will meet at 10.30am at the Lost Fawn Cafe today.  All crafts welcome. No charge this morning but you can buy your own coffee and one of Regans yummy cakes!
The Springbrook Community Library is no longer open on Wednesday afternoons.  Please access the books during the SMCA meeting tonight if you need any. The Purlingbrook Book Nook on Kuralboo st is open all day every day if you haven't tried it yet.
Despite our facebook page saying the meeting is on Thursday, our SMCA general meeting will be TONIGHT, 7.15pm at the hall. Roz Bates will be our guest this evening if you have anything you'd like to ask her. Visitors always welcome, but are unable to put motions to the floor or vote.

Good to hear we have some respite from the stress of fires at the base of our hill top heaven this morning. It's the beginning of the season so we may go through this a number of times before we get some decent rain. Hopefully we've all learnt a few things about what fires can do and what information is out there for us. Now we have some resources to draw on when the next incident occurs. In the meantime, dancing, prayers and other rain inducing rituals are encouraged!
Be kind to each other. We all cope in different ways. It's been a scary week for us here on the mountain. Get on with your day and stay busy. The firies will keep us up to date with any developments. Remember, if you can't find us on the QFES pages, then they don't have a fire worth reporting in our area!! Breathe. Relax. Stay busy. Be calm. We have a wonderful Wednesday to get on with!
See you there! 💚Springbrook

Todays Tuesday and we are all tired...

Today's Tuesday and we are all tired. Its wearing us all down being surrounded by smoke and knowing the fires are down there somewhere. But we live in Springbrook and we are very resilient community. Springbrook was built on determination and cooperation by the first settlers, and today we are still determined to succeed and always work well together in a crisis. We may be tired, but we are formidable when we need to be!
The RAW challenge for our school kids down in Numinbah Valley today has obviously been CANCELLED. Just school as usual up here on the hill.

Come and stretch and relax with some Yoga with Helen. 9am at her studio, 1947 Springbrook Rd today. A great way to unwind some of those stress levels.

The Men's Shed is open from 10am this morning. A good chance for the mountains men to get together and chat about recent events over a cuppa. Drop in. You'll be welcomed.

Perisai Diri Silat is on at 6pm tonight at the Hall because smoke, high winds and fires wont stop Simon from holding his classes!

Keep your car packed, your fire plan active and know where you will go if we have to leave. Being prepared is also peace of mind. Having a plan helps to keep the nerves calm.
As official information comes to hand, we will post it here. Get on with your day. Fear breeds quickly when you have nothing to do. Our authorities are watching everything and will let us know as things change. We will get as much warning as possible if there is any need to leave. Dan's still on the mountain, so it's all good. When he goes, we'll all follow!! Make sure you get a hug today. Smile and talk to people. We are a strong community with a big heart.
Let's see what happens next in our little hill top heaven. Have faith. Be calm. Get on with your day!

See you there! 💚Springbrook

Monday 9 September 2019

Make no mistake, its Monday!

Make no mistake, its Monday! It's another glorious day on the mountain but with the fire in Binna Burra still on our minds. We are officially still on Stay Alert, so stay packed and ready to leave, as things can change so quickly.

School is still on this morning - sorry kids only Beechmont school has been closed, but it is library day today and we do like our books here in Springbrook!

Our fantastic little Playgroup is on this morning at the school. 9.30am to 11am. Come along and get support after our long weekend from other parents and carers and give your littilies some fun activities with other children today!

Feeling tense? Need to stretch and relax? Well, come to Yoga at the Hall at 6pm tonight. Helen will help get those knots out of your body and give your mind a chance to relax after the stress of the weekend.

The Springbrook National Park is still closed. Please respect the closure and stay out of the park and the campgrounds while our staff and equiptment are busy fighting fires over in Binna Burra. It will reopen as soon as it can.
Don't forget there is a total fire ban across the area. No naked flames under any circumstances.
It's been a long, stressful, sleepless weekend for most us all. Be patient and understanding with each other. We all cope with the stress of potential evacuation differently. Ask, are you ok? and let people talk today. Take time to care for yourself too. You can't help your friends and family effectively if you are too tired and too stressed.
Breathe. Relax. Hug. Cry. Have faith.

We are a strong, stroppy little community and any fire thinking of coming up here is gonna get a whupping from the incredible Rural Fire Service we have up here!
Stay in touch with real people. Get your information from official channels and keep your fire plan in mind. Stay safe. Stay  healthy. Stay calm.
See you there! 💚Springbrook

Get your bush fire updates from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services websites and social media pages. They have the correct and most up to date information on both their websites and phone apps. Remember, no news is good news from QFES!

The Springbrook National Park is closed for a short time while the bush fires continue to burn in our area. QPWS resources are being used to help fight theses fires and as such, aren't here to keep us safe. A decision was made to close the Park temporarily in the interests of public safety. The gates are shut and signs have been erected informing visitors of the closure. Please respect QPWS's order and refrain from entering the Park. It will be open as soon as possible.

The Springbrook Community Seed bank is having a seed packing day on Thursday at 10am. They have been donated large quantities of seed and need to pack and label them into smaller quantities.  If you're interested helping out. Call Gina at Self Help Retreat for more information.

This months Cuban Dance class is on this Saturday night, 5.30pm at the hall. Great fun. Great teacher and lots of happy music. Bring your two left feet and let your inner Cuban out!

The Springbrook Community Library will no longer be open on a Wednesday due to people mostly accessing the books during community group gatherings. If you would like to donate books, call Lynne on 0409988385 and she will arrange pick ups from you. More library ideas will he presented at the next SMCA meeting.

Tuck Shop is coming to the school!
You can order from the Lost Fawn on a Tuesday for Wednesday lunch and from Dancing Waters for a Friday lunch. Contact each cafe for prices and menus.

We have lots of local handy men who would be happy to help you with your handy man needs!

A bit of smokey Sunday for us!

A bit of a smokey Sunday is on the cards for us all here today on our hill top heaven. The fires closest to us have been downgraded at this time giving us a chance to breathe. Keep informed by checking the Qld Fire and Emergency Services website and social media. It's the best place for getting up to date and correct information.

Our beautiful Springbrook National Park is closed to everybody at the moment. It's a temporary measure as the resources in our area are too stretched to keep us safe in the Park at this moment. Please respect QPWS's decision and stay out of the park and camp grounds for the time being. They'll be open again as soon as they can.

The Sunday Afternoon People are meeting to make music and have fun this afternoon. To find out todays location, call Cath on 0423 414 073 and she'll give you all the information.
It's been a stressful few days for us all up here in Springbrook. Large unpredictable bush fires are scary things to deal with and we all have our own way of coping. Have patience with each other and continue to reassure your friends and families.
Thank a Firey. We have so many amazing ones up here, all volunteers too! Thank you to the support systems they have and to QFES for all the information you put out for us. We are grateful.
Hug people. Let people talk. Have a cup of tea. Be grateful that Springbrook is largely self defending with her cliffs and dense rainforest around the base.

Check out the veiws. Gaze in wonder at the smoke in the valleys. Breathe. We live in Springbrook!

See you there.

Saturday 7 September 2019

It's a sit tight Saturday!

It's a sit tight Saturday for us here on the hill today.  The official status is still "Prepare to Leave". That means pack your car, know where you are going, advise your family and check on your neighbours. The QFES web pages are the best place to get your information from.
Our Mountain response teams are meeting this morning and we will report the official outcomes on this page as they advise us. In the meantime, get prepared to leave and tune your radio to 91.7fm. Lots of great information about bush fires and preparing for them coming from this station.
As information about each of todays planned activities comes to hand, we will update here.
Coastal High- CANCELLED
Mens Shed meeting - tbc
SWAG - CANCELLED
Numinbah Valley Movie- tbc
P&C Trivia - tbc
Stay safe. Pass on official information and if you are worried leave the mountain sooner rather than later.
Check on your neighbours. Knock on the doors of airbnbs and check they know where to get information and prepare to leave if we need to.

Fridays weather is flabbergasting!

Fridays weather is flabbergasting! So hot for this time of the year. So dry for this time of the year and to top it off, BoM tells us we might get some winds as well. Talk about setting the scene for a fire up here... With the weather so flammable at the moment, remember to check your fire safety plan. Will you fight or flight from the fire. Have you got your disaster info magnetized the fridge? Good time to look at it today?

The School Gardening Project will be happening this morning from 8am to 8.45am in the school gardens. Students and parents welcome to come and dig, plant and water!

If you havent had enough Yoga this week theres a class with Danielle at the Numinbah Valley Hall, 9.30am today. Pop down and check it out!

Dont forget to pop the kids School Banking in their bag today!

Our amazing AA group meet at the hall 4.30pm this afternoon. They have quite a few people come up from the Coast as it's such a great group. If you need support around alcohol at all, these are the people. Just turn up!

Stay cool, drink water, be grateful.

See you there!

Thinking about Thursday things to do!

Thinkin' about Thursday things! So much to do and such a short day to do it in. Sunrise is almost at 6am and sunset is just after 5.30pm today. Hopefully that will be enough time to put out the fires at our neighbours in Canungra, get water delivered and still have time to enjoy the diverse activities on offer today here on Springbrook. So on with the Thursday things!

If you get your School Tuck Shop orders to Anastasia at Dancing Waters today, she will deliver in time for Friday lunch. Only $5, school approved menu and a nice way for you and your student to end the week!

Our students are well looked after by the community. Today Helen will be taking a Before school yoga class for students and parents at the school. 8.15am to 8.45am. No late entries, says Miss Sue, so get there on time if you want to join in today!

Our best known social club on the mountain is the Men's Shed and they open at 9am to talk bloke stuff. They have a workshop and a garden when they've talked to much and a cuppa at 10.30am if they havent quite put the world to rights before then! Pop in and see what really happens!

We've got Yoga with Helen, 9am at her studio, 1947 Springbrook Rd this morning. Always energetic on a Thursday as shes still bubbling from the kids class earlier!

Our Tank Muralers will be painting at 10.30am this morning at the Welcome Tank. All helpers welcome. Bring along any plastic containers for paint mixing and a plate to share for morning tea. Be part of a Springbrook tradition and splash some paint around!

Perisai Diri Silat is on at 6pm at the Hall tonight for those with some energy to burn. Great sport. Drop in and chat to Simon about it tonight!

Thank goodness our Fire Bridage team is meeting tonight, 7pm at the Fire Shed. They will prepare for any possible fires up here and advise us on what we need to do do be fire ready. This season has started early with the lack of rain and very low humidity this year...

Think about all those Thursday things. Check your fire plan so you know what to do if the worst happens up here. Share information. Keep an eye out for each other and get on with doing your thing this Thursday.

See a sunset. Hug a child. Put a bowl of water out for the wildlife. You are a Springbrookian.

See you there!

The weather feels a bit wacky...

The weather feels a bit wacky for the first week of Spring doesn't it? Who threw off a blanket or doona last night? You can feel the heat rising up from the badlands below this morning. We look like we are gearing up for quite a hot end to this week. Our wildlife will need some water in this weather. Fill up your bird baths and pop out bowls of water for the animals to grab a mouthful from as they pass through your back yard in the next few days.

Wednesday is a really great day for Craft. Which is handy as there is a craft group that meet at the hall at 10am on a Wednesday.  Not a coincidence, I think! $3 for a cuppa and a hall hire. Byo craft and a plate to share for crafting sustanance! Just turn up. All crafty people welcome!
For all the book lovers out there, the Springbrook Community Library will be open this afternoon from 3pm to 4pm at the hall. Bone up for the Trivia night by checking out some unusual books and getting a jump on the competition!
A nice relaxing day today which is just as well as tomorrow is quite a busy day on the mountain.

There's the student yoga, the Mens Shed,  TANK MURAL PAINTING, Perasai  Diri Silat and a Fire Brigade meeting if that sound right to Fire Brigade people (?) all happening tomorrow.

Also.... drum roll please... Tuck shop is coming to the school! Order on Thursday through Dancing Waters Cafe for delivery on Friday!
In the meantime, be prepared for some wacky weather, seasonally a bit too hot with the real chance of another cold snap in coming weeks. Get your Sarong out from Winter storage but dont put the beanie away yet.

Drink lots of water today. Check your water tank level and pop some water out for our wildlife.  They'll appreciate that. Then pull off your sox and wiggle your toes in the sun for a few minutes today. They'll appreciate that too!
Keep your cool. Stay hydrated and keep an eye on each other.

See you there! 💚Springbrook 📷 Taninaba Falls

Sounds like a chirpy Tuesday out there today!

Sounds like a chirpy Tuesday out there at the moment. Listening to birds lowers your heart rate and sets off all those good chemicals in your brain.
Fire wood and water are our two most precious winter commodities with the fine weather emptying our tanks and giving us those chilly nights that need a fire. More blue skies and sunshine on the way this week.

Theres Yoga with Helen down at her studio at 9am this morning, 1947 Springbrook Rd. A nice way to start a Tuesday morning!

Our Men's Shed is open from 9am and loves to have new blokes popping in and checking out what they do. You'll find them down the long driveway to the right of Sophie's stall opposite Carricks Rd. Drop in, they do love to see you!

Simon will be holding Perisai Diri Silat at 6pm at the Hall tonight. This hour class has a bit of everything, stillness, discipline and high energy. Check it out tonight!

Got plans for the weekend? Try this one. Saturday afternoon is the SWAG Reptile talk where you can learn about the local creatures that slide, run and climb using the suns energy. The bigger kids can run loose at the park or skate park next to the hall for the afternoon.
Then at 6pm send the kids off with the baby sitter to Numinbah Valley Hall for movies and Fish n Chips while you get ready for the Trivia night at our hall. Cash bar and supper provided. Cut throat and competitive. Its going to be a great night.

Lower your heart rate. Flood your brain with all those feel good chemicals. Sit in the sun. Have a cuppa with a friends and see how many different bird call you can hear on this chirpy Tuesday!

Be good. Be nice. Be kind to yourself!

See you there!

Monday 2 September 2019

Mercifully, its Monday!

Mercifully, its Monday! After such a busy long weekend, the normal Monday routine seems like a break! Our mates at BoM have spun the forecasting wheel and gone back to predicting sunshine and blue skies for most of the week. Let's hope not. Clouds on the horizon for the end of the week but the water delivery trucks look like a better bet for getting water in the tanks if you're really low.

Its School Library Day today at the school. Pop your books in your school bag so you can get another exciting book out later today!

Playgroup at the school 9.30am to 11am this morning. All littilies welcome. Its completely free. If you have new neighbours on the mountain with preschoolers, let them know!

Do you need some Yoga tonight after such a busy and perhaps indulgent along weekend? See you at the Hall, 6pm for stretching and relaxing.

Seen any abandoned, burnt out or smashed up cars over the weekend? Spotted the blue one over the edge above Harys lookout. If you're the downhill passenger, you should be able to!  Let council know on division9@goldcoast.qld.gov.au when you spot it!

Lots to look forward to this week. A busy Saturday with a fantastic SWAG talk on Springbrooks Reptiles, 2pm at the hall and the P&C's Trivia night at 7pm. Get cheap early bird tickets from Dancing Waters Cafe.

Start looking for flyers about the Natural Holistic Community Health Day coming up on September 22 run by our local natural health practitioners. A great chance to see what we have up here.

Have a relaxing Monday. Take a bit of time for you today. Sit. Breath. Look at the antics of the birds and be still after such a busy weekend. And then leap up and hop to it. Its Monday after all!

See you there!

Sunday 1 September 2019

Spring into Sunday!

Spring into Sunday! Its Fathers Day and according to the Australian Government calendar, it's also the first official day of Spring. Of course, if you follow the Astronomical calendar,  Spring should start at the equinox when the Southern hemisphere actually has a longer day than the northern hemisphere.  But hey, we live in Australia and we do things a bit differently here!!

Happy Fathers Day to our our Mountain Fathers! Have a wonderful day celebrating your Fatherness today!

First day official day of Spring is going to be a busy day with the Numinbah markets on down at the Numinbah Valley Hall from 8am to 1pm. Grab some breaky, listen to some music, chat to all sorts of people!

The Catholic Church Service is on this morning, 11am at 567 Pine Creek Road. Just turn up, you will be most welcome.

All our cafes, shops and farm gates open today if you still need a local gift for a local dad!

The open mic music session is on at the Springbrook Cafe and Bar this afternoon starting at 3pm. Have a drink and enjoy the talent. Have a drink or two and join in!

A fabulous day to be alive here on Springbrook for the first of the first days of Spring! Enjoy the blossom, the frolicking bird (there not being many spring lambs around) and enjoy another rain free day with clear blue skies.

Happy Fathers Day!

See you there!
