Living in Springbrook

Springbrook is a unique place. The Springbrook National Park has World Heritage Listed status and we are surrounded by cloud forests, rain forests and eucalypt forests that are filled with animals and plants that are found nowhere else.

Springbrook is an incredible place to live. However, it is not always an easy place to live in and those who make their lives here, long term, must be dedicated to the the lifestyle!

The rainfall is one of the highest in the state and this is essential for the rain and cloud forests to flourish but it also can make managing the day to day challenges of mould, mildew, seeping damp and just plain flood-water a challenge for a few months of the year.

We share this beautiful place with wonderful wildlife and we really love this but, unfortunately they also want to share our warm dry houses with us and see us a ready supply of food. Possums, snakes and the protected Antichinus are particularly good at moving in with us.

Springbrook is 45 minutes on a good run, from the nearest facilities, which makes daily life more of a challenge than normal and access to health service, especially in an emergency quite scary. Then there is the road. Windy, mountainous, one ways, drop offs, fallen trees and landslides. It is always an interesting trip to the coast.

But we love it!

And lots of wildlife love our roads. The snakes bake in the heat, the Paddymelons nibble on the verges and the birds of prey pick at any carrion on the roads. Its best to keep the speed down as you travel through our picturesque mountain so you have time to react to the baking and nibbling fauna on our roads!

So, not many people live up here for a long time unless they are dedicated to the mountain, the lifestyle and are environmentally aware to a greater or lesser degree. We hope you are one of them!

Check out our pages for info about firewood, gas, and water suppliers. Make sure your home is weatherproof and that you get to know your neighbours. Its vital to have a support system that works both ways when things go pear shaped. Build yourself a community and join groups and get involved.

Springbrook is special in so many ways and we hope you are someone who will add to the community vibe in a positive way and bring a a new and special aspect to our community!
