Springbrook is a very independent small township. We all collect our own water from our rooves and store it in tanks for future use. We all have waste water treatment or septic systems of some sort. Due to our frequent power outages, a lot of us have generators, gas cookers and solar power to cope when we have no power.
As there is no public transport, we all have cars that can handle the long drives into the "city" and the steep hills on which we live. Springbrookians tend to get on well with their neighbours as you never know when you are going to need them, or they you, when there is a crisis, or you need the proverbial "cup of sugar".
Chainsaws and leaf blowers along with winches and extra fuel cans are standard sort of household items in our more isolated village. Trees down in your backyard and falling across your driveway or the road are fairly common occurrences where we live.
Our council rates are pretty low but our facilities are few and far between and we kinda like it that way. We embrace the less is more mentality and enjoy Mother Natures offerings and community gatherings as our entertainment.
So what do we have up here?
Waste Transfer Facility
As we have limited rubbish collection, some of us may have to take your household waste to the tip. The entrance is up the driveway on the right hand side of Carricks Road opposite the hall.
Please separate your rubbish into waste, recyclables and green waste. Please keep the area clean and tidy so we don't lose this valuable facility.
The Emporium!
This is a waste reduction initiative by the council and is our Aladdin's Cave of treasures that is also located at the tip!
It works by having locals drop off items they don't want, neatly and tidily onto the shelves and then anyone passing who see's something they cant live without, picks it up and takes it home!
Its fun and its FREE - help yourself to anything anytime - just keep it tidy!
